Back in the USA!

Lukus and Raymond (above, on the shore of Lake Erie) returned to S.E. Michigan at the end of March to prepare for their Portuguese visa interviews in New York City. A bit of a bureaucratic headache, we know the hard work will be worth it once we arrive back home on Ilha Terceira on July 19.

This process has also allowed us to gather documents and certifications in preparation for the next step: meeting with the Portuguese immigration office to obtain residency permits. After that, we will be able to work locally, travel more cheaply between the Azores, and perhaps create a local business.

Travels: North to South

Around Easter we travelled to central Michigan for Lukus’ great-aunt’s 100th birthday. Aunt Ruth, you are an inspiration to us all!

We then drove to South Carolina to visit Lukus’ sister and nephew at Lake Wylie. A wonderful experience…spending quality time with my sister and seeing the talented young gardener my nephew has become.

Continuing our southern journey, we finally arrived at Lukus’ parent’s home in central Florida (a total of 1258 miles from the birthday party). Immediately we were hit by the humidity and tropical foliage and were reminded of Terceira…

We had a great time visiting Lukus’ family in sunny Florida – countless hours sitting by the pool, strolling through the gardens, and discussing future projects for our little house!
